Energy monitoring: A new consideration for the smart factory
Innovation

Smart Twins

If separate, complete digital twins can be created for automation systems, products and production processes, and if they can be networked with each other, then all processes can be mapped transparently and optimised to achieve smart production. What’s more, if this data can be linked to energy data, whole new opportunities could be leveraged for improved energy transparency. Factory operators could then monitor, manage and, in the future, control their energy consumption with precision. Rittal, Eplan, Cideon and German Edge Cloud have the necessary domain expertise to make that happen.

Anlagen Zwilling

ANLAGEN-ZWILLING

Eplan and Rittal are working with control, switchgear and machine manufacturers to further the development of digital twins for machinery and systems and make data usable during operation. The automation twin could also potentially be used to identify energy consumers and measure energy consumption.

Produkt Zwilling

THE PRODUCT TWIN

Cideon is improving digital continuity in the digital product twin context with its CAD/CAM, PDM/ PLM and product configuration expertise – from customer specification to manufacturing. If product data is available in its entirety, then further down the line it can be used, for example, to work out how much energy was used to manufacture individual components and the system as a whole.

Fertigungs-Zwilling

THE PRODUCTION TWIN

German Edge Cloud uses information from data for faster networking and to visualise processes as a digital production twin. IIoT-supported production management then increases production efficiency and flexibility. If the production data is linked to energy data in the ONCITE DPS (digital production system), companies can then make energy flows transparent so they too can be optimised.
