Meurer-etechnik – a successfully established market player

The entrepreneur and passionate motorcyclist is someone who makes things happen. He’s also a practical thinker. “We are eager to offer our customers everything they need to solve their tasks.” In other words, electrical configuration in panel building and switchgear manufacturing, which includes customised enclosures and industry-specific switchgear, e.g. for municipality-run projects such as water supply and sewage treatment plants, industrial process technology applications, and mechanical and plant engineering operations. Meurer-etechnik carries out projects for customers across the globe in compliance with the latest norms and manufacturing standards, which is in part thanks to its UL-listed products and ISO certification.

Its comprehensive portfolio also includes consulting, software development, assembly and commissioning – not to mention maintenance and servicing. Meurer’s father founded the company in 1969, the same year he himself was born. Today, the business has 35 employees. Meurer-etechnik has successfully established itself on the market through expertise, customer centricity and “all-round support”.

Precise, top-quality machining

Another reason for its success is the huge leap in quality in manufacturing processes. Since 2016, the Perforex BC machining centre from Rittal has taken care of the drilling, punching, milling and thread tapping of panels and enclosures on a fully automated basis. Previously, every single enclosure part had to be machined manually. The drilled holes on an enclosure, for instance, therefore took several hours depending on how many were needed, and staff couldn’t afford to make any mistakes. Due to the powder-coated surface, the machining quality wasn’t always perfect for every drilled hole. At times, enclosure parts had to be discarded and the work started afresh.

Dietmar Meurer, Owner and Managing Director of meurer e-technik

Things are different now. The Perforex system machines every inch of every enclosure panel with the same level of precision and reliability. Meurer knew that Perforex would enable him to directly enhance his production processes. After an initial trade fair visit, advice from the sales team, and then a trip to the Rittal Innovation Center in Haiger, he was completely sold on the idea. “The machine caught my interest straight away. After all, we are keen to enhance quality and thus improve customer satisfaction – not to mention increase productivity and streamline manufacturing operations.”

A distinct increase in throughput

The company has succeeded in meeting every single one of these objectives. “In 2018, we recorded a 30 per cent increase in enclosure throughput compared to the previous year,” says Meurer. Not included in this figure, since they are impossible to quantify in numbers, are the gains in terms of image, trust and customer loyalty. “We are eager to provide our regular customers with the best possible service and of course attract new clients,” he adds. “In the eyes of some customers, we have only just become an appealing option, as we are now able to supply quantities that were simply infeasible in the past. Furthermore, we need to respond to demands for shorter delivery times. We can now offer some customers who require completed switchgear featuring smaller enclosures a delivery time of two weeks, which previously would have been unthinkable. We’re playing in the upper league now!”
